Choosing Bathroom Faucets Wisely - Page 3

As important as the look of the fixture is the material out of which the bathroom faucet is constructed. A lot of recent construction has featured brass bathroom faucets; this finish can certainly contribute to a rich refined look for a lavatory. Unfortunately, even with a glaze or coating, maintaining brass bathroom faucets can be difficult. Brass fixtures are prone to discoloration and/or rust. They are also easily scratched with abrasive cleaners.

Colored sink fixtures are another current trend. These bathroom faucets fall victim to many of the same hazards as brass bathroom faucets. Colored bathroom faucets also make redecorating the entire bathroom more troublesome. In addition, their owners may find that they soon tire of the hue and replacing them is time consuming, tiresome and expensive. For most heavy-use family bathrooms, polished chrome is a long lasting, easily cleaned and economic choice.

For many buyers, the inner construction of a bathroom faucet will be its biggest selling point. With current production standards, most bathroom faucets will last several years. However, for an even longer life and ease of operation, ask for faucets with dual ceramic discs. Searching out bathroom faucets without washers can also save an owner the dreaded and hard-to-repair nighttime “drip, drip, drip.”

As with all purchases for the home, make certain to inquire about the faucet’s warranty. Reputable dealers of quality fixtures always provide manufacturers warranties. Be sure to read the warranty and to put it away along with the receipt for the faucet as most warranties will not be honored without a proof of purchase.

All in all, buying a bathroom faucet can be easy if a person does a little research ahead of time. A buyer should know with what type of sink the faucet will be used. The amount of wear and tear the faucet will receive should also be noted. Investigate if any special sink configurations are already in place. Take into account an appropriate and easily-cared-for finish. Finally, think about any special features that might be desired or required. After that, it will be easy to hit the hardware store and find a bathroom faucet that will make an attractive and utilitarian addition to any home.
