Commercial bathroom sinks have come a long way, too. Many have motion sensors that turn the water on when you put your hands under the faucet. It “senses” the motion under the faucet and then turns the water off when the motion has stopped. It’s a water saver for the company and the consumer doesn’t have to worry about germs on the faucet.

Obviously, the room you have to dedicate to a bathroom sink will dictate more than anything else when determining the kind you will need. Although many of the decorator bathroom sinks can be quite expensive, they can still be great choices. Most likely, you won’t be replacing your bathroom sink very often so it’s important you get the one you really want and it doesn’t hurt to think about resale value down the road. The good news is even if you choose a bathroom sink that is rather expensive, you can buy it used without compromising the value. Shopping for the just-right bathroom sink can be fun, too. EBay has hundreds of bathroom sinks for sale, but if you’re remodeling, you might want to check flea markets, swap meets and the like.

Another thing to consider is where you want to install the faucets. Some sinks come with the holes for the faucets already in them while others require the faucets to be mounted either on top of the sink or vanity or attached to the wall. The fixtures have become as designer-friendly as the sinks themselves so you’ll want to co-ordinate.

Hand-painted bathroom sinks have become an art form. You can buy these in several different designs including a Western motif, Mexican and African designs. You can even design your own.

The important thing is to consider all your options and plan accordingly. Decide how much room and money you have to spend on your bathroom sink. If you’re going with a lavatory, you’ll need to decide which kind of sink will fit the countertop. Depending on the material of the countertop, it may be able to custom fit any shape of sink, but this is something you’ll certainly want to work out before you buy the actual bathroom sink.
